The President of the Gambia Student’s Association in Morocco together with the Counselor of the Gambian Embassy in Morocco on Monday 28th February, 2022, received twenty-seven Morocco scholarship awardees at Mohammed V International Airport, Casablanca. These awardees were accompanied by a diplomat from the Ministry of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology.

After the awardees were taken to the Office of the Agency responsible for international students affairs in Morocco (AMCI) for them to settled their paperworks, a warm welcoming politesse was arranged by the executive in collaboration with the Embassy of the Gambia in Morocco. Her Excellency, Madam Ambassador of The Gambia to Morocco, the Deputy Ambassador and Head of Missions, The councilor of the Embassy, Executive members and non-Executive members all graced the occasion and help in making the first day of their arrivals a remarkable one.

In her address, the Ambassador Madam Saffie Lowe Ceesay advised the students to exercise discipline as the Gambian students in the Kingdom are well known and recognized for being disciplined and determined in all aspects of their activities. She assured them that her doors and that of the Embassy facilities are always open for all Gambian students in Morocco. Her remark was followed by series of questions and answers between the new students, the seniors and the Embassy officials present.

It was clearly indicated that the awardees have already taken their French courses in The Gambia few months ago. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, they were obliged to wait until the Moroccan government reopened its borders. Now that they are finally in the kingdom of Morocco, they will be embarking on their academic journey for the academic 2021/2022 once their paperworks are all settled out.

In addition to the mentorship program that was put in place to prepare them for their endeavors in the Kingdom, they were offered an informational orientation ceremony on October 2nd 2021. The ceremony was coordinated by The Gambian Student’s Association in Morocco in collaboration with its Alumni in The Gambia. This was aimed at elucidating in details the Moroccan system of education, school related to their chosen programs, school criteria, grading system, career pathways and success as well as to promote networking amongst the senior students. Presently, they have gathered enough information that will help guide them through out their staying in the Kingdom of Morocco.

The executive would like to take this opportunity to thank the Embassy of The Gambia to Morocco for taking care of the accommodation expanses of the students during their two days staying in Rabat, the social and cultural team of the Association for making sure that the students get fully rich meals that help to keep their energy level up and the volunteers who created time out of their busy schedule just to make sure that the awardees felt that sense of belonging in the kingdom.

Ultimately, The Gambia Student’s Association in Morocco wishes them all the best in their future endeavors.
